Carlyle Shuttle Returns March 15th

The Carlyle Shuttle will start up again on March 15th. Shuttle stop locations include: VRE Station, King St. Metro, Dulany St. (at 2000 Duke), Carlyle Towers, Courthouse Square, Ballenger & Dulany, and Jamieson & John Carlyle. The shuttle will run approximately every 10 minutes and will not be in service on federal holidays.

Carlyle Holiday Market & Cookie Crunch

The Carlyle Vitality Initiative will host its Annual Holiday Market, virtually and in-person, starting on November 27th thru and December 4th and Onsite from December 5th and 6th from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm.

The Holiday Market will also feature the Inaugural Carlyle Cookie Crunch in which patrons will receive a cookie tin and have the ability to pick up a different signature cookie from our participating restaurants, vendors, and bakers at each vendor stand during the Holiday Market on each market day from 4 pm to 7 pm. Participating patrons will judge each cookie for bragging rights as Carlyle's favorite cookies! Purchase a ticket for $10 to be a part of the Carlyle Cookie Crunch!

Alexandria Guidelines to Support Fall and Winter Outdoor Businesses

The City of Alexandria released guidance for businesses planning to accommodate patrons outdoors during colder weather in response to COVID-19. Advice on installing temporary structures, tents, awnings and heating elements and incorporating health and safety requirements is available in Guidelines for Winterizing Outdoor Business Activities 2020-2021. City permit fees associated with adapting outdoor operations to colder weather are temporarily waived.

Despite Consolidation, E-Scooters May Thrive

According to Clean Energy Trust, the micromobility market (bikeshare and e-scooters) has strong underlying fundamentals that may emerge even stronger due to the pandemic. For instance, pre-Covid, scooters were often used as links between different public transit options. Recent evidence shows there has been an uptick in riders using scooters for their entire journey. And, bicycle usage overall has grown during the pandemic as transit usage has been curtailed and people are looking for outdoor recreational options.
