New Bridge Over Potomac
The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority announced a $20 million grant from an infrastructure bill signed by the president that will used to help fund a new bridge across the Potomac just for bikers and pedestrians. The total cost is $88 million, and the rest will be funded by state and local tax money.
The new pedestrian/bike bridge is part of a larger project in which a new railroad bridge will be built next to the century plus old Long Bridge, which goes between Arlington and DC. In addition, the new pedestrian/bike bridge will also be built. The new railroad bridge is expected to open around 2030, and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority expects the pedestrian/bike bridge to open either in 2030 or earlier.
