On Behalf of the Carlyle Club: A Pre-Mother’s Day Celebration Featuring The Magnificent Julia Nixon
May 5 @ 8:00 pm

Image

In 1983, Nixon won the role of Effie White in the original Broadway production of “Dreamgirls,” replacing actress Jennifer Holliday. During this time, she was signed to Polygram Records London, with a number one dance hit. This won her a tour with Richard Pryor. Following her Broadway success, she became a fixture on the Washington, D.C., music scene with her group Julia & Company.

This performer brings a program that mixes her signature R & B classics and jazz standards. Julia has been compared to the likes of Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner and Barbara Streisand.

Just recently she sold out The Barns of Wolf Trap with her sensational Bacharach review.

SBDC Workshop: Podcasting for Small Business @ Alexandria Small Business Development Center
May 17 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Many people are starting to develop a taste for customizing their entertainment and self-improvement through a medium called podcasting. Small Business owners can really take advantage of the popularity of this medium. Social selling today requires more, higher-quality content production from Small Business than ever before, and podcasting is no exception. It takes work. However, the power of podcasting will bring compound dividends to your business like no other marketing medium, whether you’re looking to reach your local community or extend to a national or global audience. So, how do you start a podcast? What software, equipment and services do you need? And, how do you promote a podcast? Those are all good questions, and all those and more will be covered in this fast-paced morning seminar with podcaster and Digital Business Strategist, Ray Sidney-Smith.
