UPDATE ON ALEXANDRIA RENEW PILE DRIVING – WINTER/SPRING 2014
That pounding sound you’re hearing is not in your mind. It’s a pile driver hard at work at Alexandria Renew Enterprises, which is located at the end of Holland Lane at Eisenhower Avenue. Machines are driving large concrete piles into the ground. The first phase of driving piles to support an 18-million gallon wastewater storage tank is nearly complete. The next phase involves driving piles to support an Environmental Center, which will house AlexRenew’s administrative workplace, public meeting spaces, and educational displays. The noise caused by the pile driving during this phase is louder because the piles are being driven above ground.
Pile driving is estimated to last until April. The Contractor is taking steps to minimize the noise in the neighborhood, including operating only during hours approved by the City’s noise ordinance – that’s Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM, with no construction on Sundays.
